DOWNGRADING PSP 1000 MODELS

Hit Counter by Digits

The following guides are for downgrading the firmware of PSP 1000 models running 3.50 firmware and lower only. If you have a PSP 2000, PSP 3000 or your firmware is above 3.50, look at other options for hacking your PSP. These will not work and could damage your PSP.

All of these guides have the aim of getting your PSP to version 1.50 using purely software hacks as an alternative to hardware methods (Pandora Battery), from which you can then install Custom Firmware. Click the link at the end of each guide for details on how to do that.

Disclaimers:

1. Any downgrader has potential to brick your psp, so proceed with caution and at your own risk. If you brick your PSP it CAN now be recovered, but you will need additional hardware for that (Pandora Battery).

2. ALWAYS downgrade with a fully charged battery pack and the psp plugged into the ac adapter.

3. Only download the software from well known sites linked in the guides.

4. Follow the directions carefully to avoid possible damage of your psp.

5. For safety reasons, please use a reformated empty memory card when attempting to downgrade. Backup any data before reformatting.

6. throughly read the README files that come with all software. most questions can be answered there instead of asking in this thread

PspHacking or any website you download software from is not responsible for anything you do to your own PSP. All of the guides given here are however fully tested and known to work.

Summary:

There are downgraders for the following firmwares. Please note there are other downgraders available, but these are the 'best' to use, so if you have firmware in between these downgraders, simply update manually to the next firmware with a downgrader. For example if you're running 2.50, update to 2.71.

2.00 - Requires the MPH downgrader.

2.71 - Requires the "red screen" downgrader

3.03 - Requires an unpatched copy of 'GTA Liberty City Stories'.

3.50 - Can be downgraded with a copy of 'Lumines' (US or EU version only)

2.00 Downgrader

This will work on any PSP that is running the 2.00 firmware and has never run firmware above that. If you have downgraded from another higher firmware this may not work.

Step 1a: Download the downgrader by clicking here.

Step 1b: Download the 1.50 EBOOT by clicking here. Rename it EBOOT.PBP, rather than 150.PBP.

Step 2: Connect your PSP to your computer via USB. On your memory stick, create a folder called UPDATE inside /PSP/GAME/ and place the EBOOT.PBP file from the 1.50 update inside this UPDATE folder. So you will have X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP.

Step 3: Unzip MPHDowngrader.zip that you downloaded in step 1a. Take the file overflow.tif and put into your /PSP/PHOTO/ folder. Put both h.bin and index.dat in the root of your Memory Stick. This is the first section of your memory stick you see when you first open your memory stick. Put them there.

Step 4: Disconnect your PSP from your computer and plug in the AC adapter.

Step 5: Navigate to Photo then Memory Stick via the PSP's menu system and start scrolling down through your photos until you reach the overflow.tif picture. You'll know you've hit it when everything freezes and you get a black screen with a bunch of white text output. If your PSP freezes without going to this black text screen, then hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the PSP shuts down, then hit the power button again to start it back up. Repeat this step until you get that black screen.

Step 6: Don't panic. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the PSP powers off. Hit the power button again. Your PSP will start up, and if you navigate to your System Information, you'll discover that your PSP thinks it is running version 1.0 of the firmware. It isn't and you cannot run homebrew (yet).

Step 7: Navigate to Game-->Memory Stick, hit the X button, and navigate to the 1.5 updater. Make sure you have your PSP plugged in or the upgrade won't work. Click the X button and update like you normally would. At the end of the upgrade you will receive an error saying that the upgrade failed and to contact Sony. Don't panic. Ignore this and again force your PSP to power off and reboot.

Step 8: After the PSP reboots you will receive an error screen that is scary and confusing because it is in multiple languages. Don't panic. Find the language you can understand and read the corresponding line. It notes that your preferences are fragged and that you need only hit the O button to restore some default-ish settings. Hit the O button.

Step 9: The PSP will start back up and you will go through the initial setup like the day when you first bought your PSP. Do so and then go to the system info pane again, where you will see that you are rocking version 1.5.

NEXT STEP: Now you're on 1.50 FW you'll want to upgrade to the latest custom firmware. To do this, go to this guide here (GUIDE: How to use Hellcats Recovery Flasher). Follow scenario 1.

Psp Games 4 Free

Here’s a site I found that might let you download free PSP games for a lifetime membership fee of $34.95.

I haven’t tried the site but it looks pretty legitimate and if you can get unlimited free PSP games for $34.95, that might save you whole lotta money over buying bunch of games at retail prices.

TRY PSP HACKING FOR DUMMIES!

HI! Welcome to Hacking for Dummies! If you're interested in not having bricked psp stew tonight, please read on! Yum!

(if you consider yourself a seasoned psp modder, then skip on to the post index, so you don't get lost :3)

What PSP do you have? (you better damn be reading this if you don't want your baby bricked)

IF YOURS IS A 1000 "Phat" ------ It doesn't matter what firmware you have. It's hackable. What's more, you can mod batteries into pandoras with it after you hack your psp.

Is it a 2000 "Slim"?------Then it probably is hackable, but careful! One certain motherboard version of the 2k's are in the "unhackable" category, like the 3k's. Refer to this link for more info>>> http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-beg...-hackable.html (How to tell if your Slim/2001 is hackable)

**and remember, if you find out that your 2k is in fact a TA-88v3, treat it as an unhackable, a 3k. If this is the case, read the category below.

Is it a 3000 "Brite"? Or did you find out yours is a 2k TA-88v3?-------Your PSP is "unhackable", yet there is still possibility for it be hacked. It absolutely needs to be 5.03 OFW or lower, if it's higher than this, then i'm afraid it falls to the category below.

Firsties Section - This covers info on how CFW began and finding out your mobo. The latter is of extreme importance. Unless you don't like your PSP that much *hinthint*

1. History of CFW

2. How to know your PSP's Mobo

Hackables Section - This covers stuff you can do on hackable PSP's, remember that any of these stuff can brick if tried on an unhackable.

3. How to Hack a Hackable PSP

4. How To Hack a PSP without a Pandora/MMS

5. How to Downgrade Firmware, and how to use Hellcat's Recovery Flasher

6. How to make your own MMS and Pandora Battery

7. How to Unbrick Your PSP

Unhackables Section - This covers hacking methods for the unhackables. Don't worry, you'll be alright if you follow instructions to the T.

8. How To "Hack" a PSP 3000/2000 TA-88v3

9. How to "Hack" a PSP 3000/Go with firmware higher 6.20 or lower

Miscellaneous Extras Section - This covers a lot of things, read up and see.

10. How to Decrypt/Patch Games requiring ofw 5.55 - 6.10

11. How to Install Popsloader and Running PSX Games

12. How to Make (Hardmod) a Pandora Battery

13. How to Convert Your PSX Games for PSP Play

14. How to Change your PSP's Faceplate

15. List of Popular Homebrew and Emulators

Key Terms:

OFW: original firmware

CFW: custom firmware

Homebrew: applications, games, etc. that can be run on your psp, but are not made by major companies, but by one or a few people.

Mobo: motherboard, the "mother ship" part of computers and consoles. The mobo version in psp's determines if you can hack it or not, and under which circumstances if you can.

MMS: magic memory stick. It's a memory stick used as a tool to hack psp's. Without the pandora, it is useless.

Pandora Battery: a battery modded to turn on your psp immediately; just by putting it in, running the psp in service mode. Without the MMS, it is useless.

XMB: Main menu of the PSP

Downloading a game iso: instant ban ticket

I will appreciate any help for this thread, if you have a guide you want shown here, don't hesitate to request it

HOW TO PLAY GAMES THAT REQUIRE 5.55, 6.00 & 6.10 OFFICIAL FIRMWARE ON CUSTOM FIRMWARE

What you need (UPDATED October 10th):

- A PSP Running Custom Firmware. Any Custom Firmware , but 5.00 M33 and 5.50 GEN are preferred, or 5.03 GEN-A if you're running a 3000 or TA-88v3. Older CFW may work, but are untested.

- The UMD of the Game you intend to play.

- UMDGen 4.00.

- Game Decrypter Homebrew (currently version 4).

How To:

1) Ensure you are running Custom firmware.5.00 M33, 5.50 GEN or 5.03 GEN preferred, but others may work.

2) Copy the ISO of the UMD in your Drive using the built in program in GEN. Just press Select whilst on the XMB (Main PSP Menu). In the menu that pops up, scroll down to USB Device. Toggle that to 'UMD Disc'. Now connect your PSP to the PC in USB mode. The PC should detect the drive, and instead of seeing the Memory stick contents as usual, you'll see a single file called 'UMD9660.ISO'. Copy it to somewhere you remember on your PC.

3) Download UMDGen Here.

4) Once extracted, run the program. Select Open, and choose the ISO you just extracted.

5) Choose "Extract image" and select a folder where you want to decompress the ISO.

6) Once done, browse to this directory in Windows.

7) Go to the folder pspgame / SYSDIR and in this folder, you will find the file EBOOT.BIN.

8) Right click on it, and select CUT.

9) Connect your PSP in USB mode, head to the ROOT of your memory stick (The first you see) and paste the file EBOOT.BIN in there.

10)Download Version 4 of the Decryptor HERE (Attached ZIP file).

11) Extract the ZIP file to somewhere on your PC.

12) Find the folder 'GameZDecryptZ' in the archive, and put that inside the PSP/GAME folder of your memory stick. So you should see X:/PSP/GAME/GameZDecryptZ/EBOOT.PBP

13) Exit USB Mode. Go to the GAME section of your PSP, onto the memory stick and find the app GAME DECRYPT Yoshihiro. Press 'X' to run it.

14) The program will do it's job, then return to the XMB.

15) Again connect your PSP to your PC in USB mode. Look in the root of your memory stick and you'll find a new folder called "decryptor".

16) Open it, and you'll find an EBOOT.BIN file, cut it to your clipboard.

17) Back on your PC, go back to the folder you originally removed the file from in step 7. Paste the new file back into there.

18) Click twice on the "parent folder" of your window, so as to return the folder that contains the folders"PSP GAME" and the file "UMD_DATA"

19) Restart UMDGen. Now, Drag and drop the PSP GAME and UMD_DATA file into the main window.

20) Click the 'Save' button, and choose where to save your modified ISO. For best results don't compress, save as an uncompressed ISO.

21) Now simply copy the ISO to the ISO folder on the root of your memory stick as usual in USB mode.

22) run the game and enjoy!

Note: Games asking for the LBA (Logical Block Addressing) require a further operation to run. With the original unmodified ISO open in UMDGen, do File -> File List -> Export and save the list. Patch your game, and just before saving the final ISO, do File -> File List -> Import, find the saved list from before, and load. This will provide the ISO files from your order, and the games work.

Compatibility List

With version four of the decrypter, there should no longer be ANY incompatibiles. All games should run on firmwares 5.00 M33, 5.03 GEN and 5.50 GEN. Older firmwares may also be compatible, but are not tested.

If anyone should find an incompatible game, please post.

This is not really my guide, i just used google translate on the GEN guide and simplified it. All credit to PSP GEN Use it elsewhere, modify it, i don't really give a damn.

Hacking Psp Firmware 6.1

I've searched around the net & even checked the thread that lists which PSPs can be hacked and apparently I made the horrendous mistake of upgrading my PSP to v6. So I have 2 questions:

a) Is there NO way to go back, something like reset to factory settings?
b) Is a hack for v6 in the offing?

Thank you.
